Chapter 11
Bridgett was washing the dishes after the eveningâs dinner with Declan and the two boys.
âWhat the fuck happened over there today?â Declan asked, as he dried the dishes beside her.
Bridgett didnât answer. She just stared into the darkness coating the winter countryside, wondering how the old man was doing in the hospital.
She placed the last plate on the draining counter, the room fell into blackness.
âGreat.â Declan huffed, reaching into the drawer under the kitchen sink and pulled out a torch.
Bridgett glanced to the digital dial on the electric cooker, and it was dead too. She peered outside and spotted that the lights still glowed perfectly in Trishâs house.
âSomethings wrong. The lights are still on next door.â She pointed towards the brightness standing proudly amongst the darkness.
âA trip switch must be down,â he replied, passing her through the kitchen then into the hallway to inspect the electrical power box above the front door.
Shining the torch, he quickly raised his eyebrows noticing that all switches were in the upright position.
âGo get the boys,â Bridgett ordered.
Without hesitation, he marched upstairs to his sons. Reaching the top of the stairs, he noticed their bedroom door was closed, which was unusual, because neither of them were capable of staying still for two seconds.
âBoys,â he called, knocking on the door.
No reply.
He opened the door and froze in his tracks, witnessing the two youngsters cowering in the corner of the room.
âWhatâs wrong?â he asked, uncomfortably watching his sons grow paler every passing second.
No words were spoken. Stephen raised a shaking hand towards the dark corner behind the door Declan stood beside. He shone the torch around the door. A dark figure moved towards him and slammed the door shut with such force the wood cracked in half. Declan was thrown backwards, falling hard onto the floor.
âWhat was that?â Bridgett roared, racing up the stairs.
âStay back,â Declan said, pulling his heavy, aching body up from the floor. âThere is someone in the room with them.â
Fear crashed over Bridgett. She couldnât establish if she had heard him correctly, or if he was confused after his fall.
âWhat do you mean?â she said stepping forward.
Turning to her, holding his neck, the blood drained from his face, witnessing the monstrous figure lurking behind her.
âBehindââ
She screamed as Natas grabbed her and picked her up like a paperweight, smiling towards her shell-shocked husband. He flung her over the banister. She hit the ground with an almighty thud, fracturing her left ankle and hip.
âYou bastard! Iâll fucking kill you!â Declan roared, running towards the unknown evil in front of him.
With his left hand, Natas latched onto the pathetic manâs shoulder.
âYou have no idea how fucking pitiful you all are. The very smell of you makes me sick. Now, do the only thing you can do ... die!â Natas growled.
He raised his enormous right hand, engulfing Declanâs head. The man screamed as the demon slowly increased the pressure to his skull. Blood oozed from his ears followed by numerous vicious clicks and cracks as Declanâs head caved in.
